SWOT and BRAND YOURSELF

SWOT: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats
  • Strengths: reliable, respectful, organized, hands-on activities, diligent, time management
  • Weaknesses: presenting in front of large crowds, writing paper
Brand Yourself: Considering I don't know what I want to pursue, I would say my biggest competitors are those that already know and are working to become whatever I become.

Two Award Winning Blogs

The TMZ website is super easy to navigate. The search bar is large so very visible and the links for "News, Sports, Pictures.." are bolded in white font against a black background which makes them stand out. The color red is used very frequently throughout which catches my attention. The headlines and top stories are listed with pictures are the top of the page. This website shows all the current drama going on in the fame world.

The Perez Hilton website is very user friendly and eye catching. The top of the page is pink and the stories below and sliding through with backgrounds of blue, green, orange, red, yellow, and purple. There are pictures for all of the stories and again, this website contains all the drama in the fame world. As you scroll through the website, the story pictures of animated which makes me want to click them even more because they appear to be popping out.

My Photos

I used the rule of thirds (left) on this portrait picture of a liquor bottle tree. I took the picture straight on so it does not have a special angle. The room was dark but the Christmas lights on the tree brightened it.

This is my friends walking through a parking lot. I used the rule of thirds (left) on this picture. The camera is angled diagonally and I lifted it up to make it higher. The street lights gave the light in the picture.

This is a couple cars in my apartments parking lot during the storm. I used natural sky lighting to take this landscape picture. The angle is high because I was standing on my front steps when I captured it.

This is a portrait picture of my keychain sitting on a table. The rule of thirds is used on the right in this picture.

This is the turf field at noon. The camera is angled diagonally. The lighting is natural.

This is a picture of Cam taking a picture of the volleyball game. I lifted my phone in the air to give the camera a higher angle. The photo is landscape. I used the gym's natural lighting.

Photography Tips

Composition: process that something is made, process of how parts are arranged, combining things that form a whole (shadow, angel, patterns)

How things are photographed and how things are places within the frame of photo, take natural pics (exactly what the person is doing without manipulation) to show people in their environment

1. Shoot tight and keep empty space to minimum
2. Shoot sharp, hold the camera still (use tripod) to eliminate fuzzy shots
3. Use different angles.. and your knees, climb: lower, higher, landscape, portrait
4. Use different camera lenses
5. Be aware of the light and how it affects the composition (available, natural, or bring-your-own)
6. The rule of "thirds"

My Movie Poster

I chose this picture because the obnoxious winding of the road stuck out to me. This is not a real movie. Me using the photographers picture will not effect him in any way monetarily.

This photo was taken by Rodney Cambell, found on Visual Hunt and has a CC BY-NC-ND license. No changes were made to the actual picture.

My Ad

I chose to do my ad on ZzzQuil because I love it. ZzzQuil is a life savor when you're exhausted but can't fall asleep. I love that the bottle is purple because purple is a ceremonial color, and for me, sleeping is something to be celebrated. The center alignment is meant to pop out and make the statement if "ZzzQuil is all you need, nothing else." The "Time for Bed!" caption is to express excitement of sleeping after your Zzzquil kicks in. The green font color is to represented that you will feel "fresh" in the morning after taking it and also to match the colors on the bottle.  I was going to use the color red to make the words pop out more but red did not look good with the colors on the bottle. I used the white background so that the huge purple bottle has all the focus.

The website was very easy to use. It provided a lot of different templates for me to choose from and was very easy to create my poster.

My Selected Ads

FAST COMPANY (October 2013) - Hyatt Place Hotel

The picture for the ad was an outlet that was made to look mad because someone forgot their charger. Hyatt is offering to lend out forgotten items such as chargers to curling irons to yoga mats. I typed in the link to find more items they may offer but the link didn’t work.

NEWSWEEK (Jan.9 &16, 2012) – RosettaStone

The picture was a man with his head against a tv
watching football. The main title was “More than words. Priorities.” And it continued to go on to say that we all love toys but we need to love something that won’t go out of date: new language. The ad caught my attention because all the yellow and I saw a football which is convenient    because college football just started back.

WIRED Nov. 2013 – DIY Arduino Seat Activator

RadioShack teamed up with Mike Riley to design this. When I first saw the Ad I thought it was saying that you could buy this chair that has a built in remote controller for the television. As I kept reading I realized that you have to build the system that allows you to do that function. You’ll need wire, resistors, electrical tape, codes, phototransitors, USBs, and much more. With this you could be able to turn the tv on and off, turn on computers, ceiling fans, lights, and even curtains.

Winnebago Man

"Winnebago Man"

The “Winnebago Man” is an angry, profanity using RV salesman. The YouTube video that I watched was a collection of clips from the original 1988 ad for Winnebago RVs. The clips consist of the salesman having a meltdown while filming the ad.

Years later in 2009, filmmaker Ben Steinbauer tracked down The Winnebago Man finding him living in a mountain top unaware of his viral fame. Steinbauer produced a movie all about the “The World's Angriest RV Salesman” including the original viral clips. In research for the movie, Steinbauer also spoke with the filming crew of the original clips "who describe the awful working conditions and their star’s incredibly poor attitude, the key factor that led to the group’s decision to capture and then compile Rebney’s outbursts and hand them over to their bosses at Winnebago. (The decision got Rebney fired.)"
